How it works
In 2022 the government changed the required training for getting your CDL. You are now required to complete two sections before you are eligible for taking your CDL exam and getting your official CDL. At SouthDakotaCDL.com we cover the first portion, Theory. But unlike most online programs, we connect you with area employers who can help you complete the behind-the-wheel portions, and offer you a job.
Theory Training
This portion is completed fully online through SouthDakotaCDL.com. You can do it in the comfort of your own home and it meets and exceeds the federal minimum standard for General Theory training. The training should take around 13 hours for you to complete. Once you’ve finished training you will need to get Behind the Wheel training to be able to get your CDL.
We also offer Hazmat theory training which is federally required before you can go and take your Hazmat knowledge test at the DMV.
Behind the Wheel Training
This portion of your training happens in a truck with a trainer who is an experienced CDL holder. You can do our Theory training and find your own Range and Road Training, or you can go with one of our recommended companies and get training AND possibly even a job!

It has been great for us working with the SDTA’s CDL Training program. They provide low-cost training so that we can train prospective drivers without breaking the bank or wasting their time.
